Don’t miss the chance to transform your summer – apply now and join a global community of aspiring scientists!

Program Highlights

Over approximately eight weeks, you’ll engage in a cutting-edge research project tailored for you by the Head of your research group. This experience goes beyond traditional study; it embodies real-world scientific exploration, allowing you to dive deep into the intricacies of modern research. Here, you won’t just learn theory; you’ll apply it and contribute to advancements in your field.

This component is the heart of our program, emphasizing the importance of hands-on experience in scientific inquiry.

Participants in previous years have engaged in diverse projects, including cancer research, recombinant proteins in plants, eco-friendly innovations to reduce emissions, and advancements in materials science for better energy storage and conversion, highlighting the wide range of possibilities.

These projects not only enrich your understanding but also prepare you for real challenges in the scientific community. By the end of your research experience, you’ll have tangible results to showcase, valuable skills to add to your portfolio, and a deeper connection to the scientific process. This immersive opportunity is designed to inspire curiosity, foster creativity, and encourage critical thinking, ensuring that you leave with a lasting impact on both your personal and professional development.

Begin your journey with a quick, engaging safety seminar tailored just for this program, giving you the confidence to work safely in our state-of-the-art labs.

Enjoy engaging, cross-disciplinary lectures delivered in clear and accessible language, designed to inspire and inform students from all scientific backgrounds. Learn from world-leading experts and gain valuable insights into groundbreaking research across diverse fields!

Toward the end of the program, you’ll take the spotlight at our Mini-Symposium. Present your project to peers, faculty, and program leaders – including the Head of the Kupcinet-Getz International Summer Program – in a friendly, supportive setting. This is your moment to shine and celebrate your contributions to the scientific community

We offer an “Effective Presentation Workshop” to help you refine your delivery, boost your confidence and perfect your presentation style. With guidance from the best, you’ll leave ready to make an impact, both at the Mini-Symposium and beyond.

Scientific research thrives on dedication, and your journey here will be no different! Plan to dedicate at least eight hours each day to your research group – though many students find themselves inspired to dive even deeper. If you need to be absent for one or more days, be sure to coordinate in advance with both the Head of your research group and the Program Coordinator at the Weizmann School of Science.

Fridays and Saturdays are typically free for you to relax and explore Israel’s beautiful landscapes and vibrant culture. Occasionally, your group Head may ask you to join team meetings or take part in special experiments for a few hours on Fridays. Stay flexible and enjoy the unique blend of research and adventure.

Application Process

The Kupcinet-Getz International Summer Program welcomes applications from all qualified students, regardless of religion, race, color, national origin, age, disability, or gender. Each year, the Weizmann School of Science selects a limited number of candidates for this prestigious program. Consequently, there are instances where deserving candidates cannot be accepted due to the high number of suitable applicants exceeding the available positions.

Minimum Requirements

To participate in the Kupcinet-Getz International Summer Program, it is required that:

  • You are currently a bachelor or a master’s student (not PhD) in the Physical Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Life Sciences, Mathematics or Computer Science, after completing the first year of your studies.
  • You are a recent graduate of a bachelor degree program in the Physical Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Life Sciences, Mathematics or Computer Science, and thinking of continuing your academic journey.
  • Students in combined BSc/MSc or BA/MA programs may apply.
  • You present evidence of a serious interest in scientific research. Previous experience is an advantage, but not a requirement.
  • You have a GPA of 3.6/4.0 or the equivalent in the grades associated with your major subject.
  • You are fluent in English, as it is the language of instruction for the program.

What You Will Need

You will be required to upload the documents listed below. All documents must be in English.

  • Copy of the title page of your passport.
  • Your CV. If applicable, please include information about previous experience in research, and list any publications that you may have authored. A passport-sized photo should be added to the first page of your CV.
  • An official, authorized transcript with current grades. An English translation signed by your university registrar must be submitted if the original transcripts are issued in a language other than English.
  • Letter of motivation, up to one page in length. Include a couple of brief paragraphs describing your interest in science and in the program, and why you believe you should be admitted.

Reference Letters

Applicants for this program must provide at least one letter of recommendation, which must be uploaded directly to our online system by the recommender. Recommenders should be from the academic world and have close familiarity with the applicant.

After the applicant completes and submits the online application form, the system will send an email with an individual URL to each recommender listed in the application.

Choosing a Lab

Within the online application form, you are required to select the name of at least one Weizmann Institute scientist (i.e., Head of a Research Group) whose group you would like to join for this program. You may select up to three scientists from this list. A list of participating labs can be found below »

Reviewing the Applications

The Head of the Kupcinet-Getz International Summer Program and the Weizmann School of Science Boards of Studies meticulously review all application files. Applications are evaluated based on comprehensive criteria including CVs, transcripts, letters of recommendation, and letters of motivation. Only applications submitted by the deadline and complete with all necessary documents are reviewed and considered.

Matching Candidates with Weizmann Institute Scientists

The top-ranked applications are forwarded to scientists at the Weizmann Institute, who make final decisions on accepting candidates who have expressed interest in working with them.

Acceptance to the Program

Once the matching process is complete, the Weizmann School of Science will notify you of the results of your application. Notifications are typically sent by the end of April.
